Who? The Sunday Talk is hosted by Matthew Kopelke and Witold Tietze. The two gentlemen became friends back in May 1998, when they became office bearers for the Brisbane Doctor Who Fan Club. Over the years, the two of them have been involved in a series of multimedia productions under the name of BTR Productions. It is their common interests which provide the content for The Sunday Talk each week. As well as these two co-hosts, the show also features a random mix of guest stars, who drop in from time-to-time to offer an extra perspective on a particular topic from that week. What? The Sunday Talk is a weekly roundtable discussion podcast, examining the "week that was" in the areas of media, technology, politics, and food & health. Even though the show covers these topics on a global scale, the show offers a very unique Australian perspective, always attempting to tie any discussion back to what it means for the average man or woman on the streets of Australia. The discussion is always lively, intelligent, and thought-provoking. The aim is not simply to offer a biased opinion, but rather, to look at all angles of each topic, as well as offering further research reading. Where? The show is recorded in front of a live Internet-based audience each week via Talkshoe, which offers listeners a chance to listen to the program being recorded live, as well as offer their own contributions via a text-based chat room. If the live angle is not your thing, however, the recordings are also made available on the following Thursday night via Feedburner, offering everyone a chance to subscribe to the RSS feed in the podcatcher of your choice, and listen to the downloaded MP3 files on the computer or device of your choice. The average episode length is between 70 and 80 minutes long. When? The show is recorded every Sunday evening at 8:30pm AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time), which roughly translates to 10:30am GMT, 2:30am Pacific US, and 5:30am Eastern US (adjust for daylight saving time where appropriate). If you are not sure what time this translates to where you live, feel free to visit the Time Zone Converter web site, which will assist you in translating the above time into the zone for you. The MP3 podcast downloads are made available each Thursday evening at around 9:00pm AEST, although this can vary from week to week upwards of an hour or two either way. Why? The main reason why The Sunday Talk exists is because both Matthew and Witold felt that given the popularity of talkshow podcasting right now, coupled with their background in Internet-based media production, it seemed like a good idea for these two gentlemen to become involved in the scene. Not only that, but they also felt they had something to offer an already crowded scene which would allow them to "stand out" amongst the crowd - chiefly, their academic background and well-read opinions. Hopefully, these will be enough to ensure the show keeps it's head above water! How? For the tech addicts in the audience, The Sunday Talk is recorded using The Gizmo Project as a SIP VoIP client dialing into the Talkshoe web site. We use headset microphones (Matthew uses the Logitech PC Headset 120) to ensure optimal recording quality. The recording is made via the Talkshoe service, and downloaded as an MP3 file which is then post-produced and edited in Cool Edit Pro 2 for the podcast release. A backup copy is also recorded locally via Gizmo's built-in call recording feature, just in case something goes wrong. Our theme tune is provided by Mark Blasco. |
